Outdoor Post Lights are available in various heights. You may want them to be short and line a pathway. You may prefer that they be shoulder height so they spread a wider glow but don’t shine into your eyes when you walk along.

The way in which you plan to use the light will make a difference in the type of post you should purchase.  Illumination of a large open area will require tall posts and bright lights. Of course, you could use several light posts instead of just one.

You might want motion sensor lights or use those that come on automatically at twilight.

The other main reason for choosing to use post lamps around your home might be to simply decorate the surrounding.

A decorative light may be less important for the light it provides than for its addition to the architecture or landscaping features of your own.

Posts can be tall or short. Landscaped beds with a lighting feature can add very little light to the surroundings but still be very attractive.
