Outdoor Post Lights are available in various heights. You may want them to be short and line a pathway. You may prefer that they be shoulder height so they spread a wider glow but don’t shine into your eyes when you walk along.
Posts that have arms or extensions must be high enough that you don’t bump your head if you walk past.
The taller posts provide a wider circle of light, but it is not as bright close to the ground.
A light on a tall post may appear dimmer because there is more distance to cover before the rays of light reach ground level.
To get the same amount of illumination with a tall post, you would need a higher wattage on the bulb. Some types of bulbs provide more illumination due to the nature of the bulb.
The way in which you plan to use the light will make a difference in the type of post you should purchase. Illumination of a large open area will require tall posts and bright lights. Of course, you could use several light posts instead of just one.
Another common use for outdoor lighting is to make safer areas for walking or playing. You might want to illuminate the immediate surroundings of your home. Lights that you select can be powered by solar energy.
You might want motion sensor lights or use those that come on automatically at twilight.
The other main reason for choosing to use post lamps around your home might be to simply decorate the surrounding.
A decorative light may be less important for the light it provides than for its addition to the architecture or landscaping features of your own.
Posts can be tall or short. Landscaped beds with a lighting feature can add very little light to the surroundings but still be very attractive.
Outdoor post lights can be made of wood, metal or plastics. Almost every architectural style can be matched by light posts. You add curb appeal to your home when you choose to install lamps that are be functional and beautiful.
